Kurt Fendt (Instructor)
Dr. Kurt Fendt is Principal Research Associate in Comparative Media Studies/Writing (CMS/W) and Executive Director of HyperStudio – Digital Humanities at MIT. He teaches Digital Humanities subjects in CMS/W and German Studies courses in Global Studies and Languages.

Josh Cowls (TA)
Josh is a second year student in Comparative Media Studies and a research assistant in HyperStudio. His research sits at the intersection of technology, politics, and the media, with a particular focus on democratic deliberation and decision-making online. Josh’s previous credits include serving as a research assistant at the University of Oxford’s Internet Institute and as an organizer on President Obama’s re-election campaign.

Chaoran
Chaoran Wu is a fisrt-year graduate student in architecture in urban design program in Harvard GSD. She received a Bachelor of architecture degree in South China University of Technology, SCUT. Besides, she has spent one and a half year majoring software engineering in SCUT from 2010 to 2012. Now she is also interested in the data visualization and user experience design.

Pojiang NIE
Pojiang Nie is a first-year graduate student in Harvard GSD majoring in Architecture in Urban Design. He received his B.Arch. from Huaqiao University in China and worked for a Japanese design firm as an intern. Yuchuan is a first year urban design student in Harvard Graduate School of Design. She is interested in data visulization and how to select appropriate tools to select, interpret and present data to the public. Her background of both architecture and urban design study provides her with the strong ability for graphic drawing. She would like to try more tools on the related fields like programming in helping visualizing data.

Xinwen LIU
Xinwen LIU is a first year urban design student in Harvard GSD. She is a UX designer, interaction designer and urban designer. Kelsey Banos
Kelsey is a first year Graduate student at Harvard University doing her Master’s in Electrical Engineering. She received her B.S. in Computer Engineering from Florida Institute of Technology and did summer research at MIT Lincoln Lab before starting at Harvard. She has a strong interest in animation and film which is what led her to a passion for computer graphics and visualization. In her free time she loves traveling, acting, filming, and volunteering.

Miles Osgood
Miles is a PhD Candidate in his fourth year in the English Department at Harvard. He got his BA at Stanford and worked for two years at Oxford University Press in New York before starting graduate school. His studies modernist literature and art, and his dissertation research and digital humanities ambitions focus on the Olympic Art Competitions of 1912 to 1948.

Peter Downs (student)
Peter is a third year undergraduate studying computer science. His first foray into programming was with Bookshrink – he’s been interested in building tools that further our understanding of text ever since. Before coming to MIT he spent time in San Francisco working as a software engineer, and maintains a healthy interest in artistic creation through digital media and photography.
